The Answer to this is:
A fish tank which measures 72 inches long x 18 inches wide x 27 inches high holds how many gallons of water?
72 x 18 x 27 = 34,992 cubic inches-
Then convert to a different unit of volume- US Gallons- ask Google:
How many gallons is 34,992 cubic inches?
Answer = 151.481 Or- it's a 150 Gallon Aquarium:
Now someone obviously wanted to either have a Reef Tank or at least use a sump pump or some true over-flow method of filtration!
Yet when they looked at the label on the tank's bottom they read: "Tempered Glass" do not drill!
So they removed the trim and cut a notch 22 1/2 inches wide going down 2 inches from the top edge of the aquarium.
So:
Consider if the entire upper two inches of water were drained from the tank because of this 22.5 inch by two inch notch - how much water would drain from the tank:
Given: 72 x 18 x 27 = 151 US Gallons
How many US Gallons is 72 x 18 x 2 (the entire upper two inches of water)...
2,592 cubic inches ... Ask google or do the math!
11.222 US Gallons:
So an ideal "Overflow Box should be able to hold at say about 12 gallons (better a little extra than not enough)...
A 15 Gall0n Tank has the following dimensions:
24.3" x 12.5" x 12.8"
So, lets take a 15 Gallon Tank, remove one of the wide sides and slap it on to the tank where the "Notch" is cut!
15 gallon | 24" x 12" x 12" | 21 lbs | 170 lbs |
