However, the most recent Gemeinhardt 2SP flutes are superior in every way to their older brothers. How to Replace Flute Pads : Instrument Clinic, Band Instrument Repair Supplies
How to Replace Flute Pads : Instrument Clinic, Band Instrument Repair Supplies: "All pads should be punctured on the side with a pad prick or needle to allow moisture to be released when replacing flute pads. Apply heat to the flute pad cups that require adhesive and thoroughly remove any leftover adhesive out of the flute pad cup. Be careful not to burn yourself and have fire safety equipment readily accessible during flute pads replacement. Once the flute pad cup is clean, insert 1-3 adhesive pellets in the flute pad cup and apply heat. You need enough heat to melt the pellets, but do not heat to boiling. Gently insert the flute pad into the flute pad cup and allow the key to cool. Replace the key on the flute and, using an appropriate heat source (ideally a micro torch), carefully apply a small amount heat to the flute pad cup. You need to be extremely careful not to over heat the adhesive. Allow the replacement flute pad to level itself over the tone hole. You may need to adjust the flute pad with a pad slick, or other small, flat piece of metal. Check the flute pad for leaks with the feeler gauge or leak light. If there is a leak, apply heat and make the appropriate adjustments to the flute pad."

Flute Pad Installation / Replacing flute pads
Flute Pad Installation / Replacing flute pads: "But, don't use centering as your only guide, sometimes they just don't. The pads MUST be level or the flute won't play.
DON'T just start bending the fronts of the pad cups down. The smart thing to do here is: DON'T BEND ANY KEYS IF YOU CAN GET OUT OF IT. And most important: DO NOT USE ANY PARTIAL WASHERS. So normally, they do not distort. You may level the pad side to side by twisting the key arm a little or you may lower the front of the cup by bending it down. This most likely will bend the edge of the pad cup a little, but not enough to be noticeable. "

Flute Pad Installation / Replacing flute pads
Flute Pad Installation / Replacing flute pads: "You notice, these groups of keys are all mounted on the same hinge points. Are things getting a little clearer? Now, if a pad is still lighter in the back, take the key off and add some more thickness. If it is now lighter in the front you may want to remove a little until it is the same pressure or LEVEL all around. Be sure you check the bottom stack post. If those pads get progressively worse, the post needs to move. If the post is bent toward the holes, the pads will get progressively lighter in back; if away, heavier and the pads won't be centered either. "

AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE BALL AND CLAW SLANT FRONT DESK c. 1770: "Condition Report:
Refinished in the last century, some sun-fading to surface, minor dings/abrasions/scratches throughout and old surface filling is visible in the deep swirling mahogany grains; surface overall is quite rich and very attractive with a mild cognac color. Pulls are period replacements in nearly the same holes as the originals. Hinges and locks replaced, one drawer lock absent - no key. All drawers have some hairline cracking and color fading, nothing particularly noteworthy. Runners added to underside of drawers to supplement frame. One backboard removed and shellacked during the 19th century - all backboards original, reattached with screws as the cut nails probably lost grip. Left loper with a pieced repair. Untouched feet"

Hondo ll Guitar Quality??? | Harmony Central: "I need some help from someone, who really knows about the old Hondo ll Les Paul copies, made in the period of 1977 to 1983 ( made in Japan at this time). I bought one for $50. It needs a new nut (bone is $40 installed), a set-up with new strings ($20 for neck set up, intonation and string height) and new electronics ( LES Paul rebuild kit from Guitar Electronics is $34 plus shipping).
Pickups are DiMarzio humbuckers and are working fine. Roughly, I need to know if this guitar is worth spending $160 bucks on it to get it up and going again. I'm a 25 year experienced player, who is now just playing for fun. I can afford the upgrades and repairs. "

Defense Dollars
Defense Dollars: " There’s still huge accounting problems in the Pentagon. They don’t even know how much money they have or are spending. The inspector general of the Pentagon said there are 2.3 trillion dollars in items that they can’t quite account for. That’s not billion. That’s trillion dollars. $2.3 trillion — and the General Accounting Office said there are about $27 billion in inventory items that they can’t find. It’s not a matter of money — if the review just results war money put into the pentagon we’ll be going in the wrong direction. It’s time to move back."

The Music of Time
The Music of Time: "The doctor explained that this was a biofeedback device. He gave me a pair of goggles which he said would reflect my state of being at the time I was looking at them. I would see colors and patterns that my own biological system was generating as I listened to the music. As I listened to the music, the colors were a cross between a kaleidoscope and what you might see looking under a microscope, but they were always moving.
After forty-five minutes, the doctor came over and brought me back to the real world. I was completely relaxed. What was particularly significant to me was that I remained relaxed for the entire day, even after a train ride from Manhattan to Long Island. Riding the Long Island Railroad has never been a pleasant experience for me. It has always been somewhat stressful, so this was a very welcome surprise"

140 Gallon Tank Is Bowing - Is This Okay? | My Aquarium Club
140 Gallon Tank Is Bowing - Is This Okay? | My Aquarium Club: "It is 72lx19dx24h and has no center bracing across the top. Glass measure at 5/8 of an inch. Empty this thing is very heavy, full I'm guessing somewhere near 1400 lbs - no substrate or rocks yet. Its currently mounted on the heavy duty steel stand and I leveled as close as possible (bubble between the middle lines, but not dead centre) (garage has a slight slope). It has the black plastic trim top and bottom and the top ledge for setting a lid on. I'm getting conflicting info some says no bowing in a glass aquarium others say its okay. Most long tanks seem to come with bracing, but mine didn't. As far as I can see it never had it."

To determine the glass thickness to use for constructing your tank, find the length of the tank in the top row (indicated in feet and cm - centimeters), then follow that column down until you reach the height of the tank (indicated in inches and cm). Glass thickness is indicated in mm (millimeters), with the number in parenthesis below indicating the Safety Factor.

Appropriate glass thickness for 1000gal* [Archive] - MonsterFishKeepers.com: "from what I was told. 1/4 glass is good up to 2 feet high. it doesn't matter how wide the tank is, it matters on how high the tank is. for some reason the higher the tank the thicker the glass. I think it has to do with the pressure of the weight of water. I see this in acrylic tanks as well as glass tanks. it seems you can have 2 tanks of equal gallons of water, one a high tank and the other standard, the high tank will have thinker glass. I checked out the site above, and I liked it. it is a good resource, everybody building a tank should use it. the only thing I can say is tell your friend to check into tempered glass. 1/4 temp. glass is = to 1 inch plate. 1/4 might be more expensive of equal size. but to buy a 1" think piece of plate will cost you a fortune. plus the plate glass would be very heavy, compared to the tempered glass. Oscar Fish Breeding
Oscar Fish Breeding: "Remove the flat rock that the eggs are laid on from the aquarium (be prepared to be viciously attacked) and place it on its side in a 10-gallon aquarium with dechlorinated water. Arrange an airstone to play a gentle stream of bubbles adjacent to the eggs. Add an antimicrobial to the water such as acriflavine (2 drops per gallon) or methylene blue, which darkens the water. This protects against flagellates and other single-celled organisms with supplemental chloroplasts (such as velvet and its relatives). Instead you could add formalin (one-tenth of a milliliter or 2 drops of 37- to 40-percent formaldehyde solution per gallon). Change water when the eggs hatch, and don’t feed until the fry are free-swimming. Change water constantly (a fourth of the water a day).
If you remove the eggs for artificial hatching and rearing of the fry, the parents will spawn again in two to six weeks. If you continue to remove eggs, they will continue to spawn. For most aquarists, that is too many fry to raise or take to pet stores — and too much work.
7. Caring for and Selling Fry
The oscar fish fry should now be siphoned into a bucket for transfer to a 10- or 20-gallon bare aquarium with sponge filtration and vigorous aeration. Reduce the temperature to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Begin feedings of newly hatched brine shrimp (Artemia nauplii) not less than twice a day, with five or six feedings a day for optimal growth. The small aquarium keeps the fry within visual range of the food, so none is wasted. If the fry don’t get enough food during the first week, they begin starving to death. The oscar fish grow fast, and by the second or third week are ready for flake foods. Grier described them as “swimming stomachs with a fin at each corner and a mouth in the front.”"

Oscar Fish Breeding
Oscar Fish Breeding: "The best trigger to spawning is a combination of new and larger quarters, increased temperature, an enriched diet and water changes. When the oscar fish are ready to spawn, they’ll begin gill flaring, fin spreading, side-by-side wagging, tail-slapping, vibrating, and jaw locking and shaking. One or both will clear the gravel from a flat rock and begin scrubbing the surface. Rock cleaning may go on for days or weeks. Spawning is imminent when the female’s ovipositor descends. When the male’s breeding tube appears extended shortly thereafter, spawning can be expected to begin within 48 hours.
With both parents’ colors intensified, their tubes down and the two oscar fish vigorously scrubbing the flat rock, the first signs of spawning are false passes by the female over the rock. After a few tries, the first eggs are laid, and the male makes a following pass over the eggs. The adhesive eggs are about a millimeter in diameter and opaque white, resembling dead eggs of other fish. Spawning takes about three hours, resulting in a 6-inch or larger patch of evenly spaced rows of eggs. Small fish may produce 300 to 500 eggs on their first spawning. Larger female oscars (10 to 14 inches) may produce 2,500 to 3,000 eggs."

Oscar Fish Breeding
Oscar Fish Breeding: "Many breeders use frozen adult brine shrimp, live crickets, thawed beef heart, trout chow, live black worms or freeze-dried euphausiid shrimp (ocean plankton). Mealworms are nutritious, but too messy and not popular.
4. Provide The Right Water
With all that fish food, water changes become mandatory. Aquarium filters are helpful but can’t deal with the load for more than a few days at a time. Change 25 to 50 percent of the aquarium water at least once a week (more often is better).
Oscar fish eat and grow well at 76 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, but spawning is triggered by elevating the temperature to 82 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This requires large aquarium heaters (not less than 5 watts per gallon). Unfortunately, oscars think heaters are toys to be tossed about and smashed into the aquarium’s sides. Select a single, large, solid state submersible heater with a dialed temperature control and no less than five adhesive tabs for locking it onto the side of the aquarium"

Oscar Fish Breeding
Oscar Fish Breeding: "Oscar fish reach sexual maturity at about 14 months when they are 6 to 10 inches long. Size is not reliable, and even age cannot be counted on for getting results. Many mature oscars refuse to spawn until they are 2 or even 3 years old.
The only certain way to sex oscar fish is by looking at the breeding tubes. In the female, the tube (ovipositor) is short, stubby and flat at the tip as though sliced off, and about as long as it is wide. The male’s breeding tube is about a third the mass of the female’s tube, very thin, curved and comes to a point; its length is far greater than its width. The tubes are only apparent just before spawning."

Step-by-Step: Drilling Holes in Your Glass Tank for Bulkheads - Reef Central Online Community: "Ahhh... forgot this little list:
Diamond Hole Saw size 60mm = 1.5 inch Bulkhead
Diamond Hole Saw size 45mm = 1.0 inch Bulkhead
Diamond Hole Saw size 38mm = 0.75 inch Bulkhead
Those listed are for standard sized bulkheads. There are some fancy heavy duty bulkheads that require a larger-sized hole in the glass tank. I am not sure the size Diamond Hole Saw required for those.
Use this conversion to determine what size you need. 25.4mm=1inch
MarineDepot lists a size 1 3/4 " hole for a size 1" Bulkhead. High School math will get you 1.75 x 25.4 = 44.45 That is the size in mm diamond hole saw that you need.
I hope that was easy to follow???"

Be careful not to overtighten the bulkhead or any threaded PVC. You can crack/split the standard bulkheads this way. It just needs to be "good and tight" not "Super Human with a Wrench Tight"
Good. I hope this has been helpful"

Life-Saving, Smart Regulation on Behalf of Patients with Aortic Stenosis | FDA Voice
Life-Saving, Smart Regulation on Behalf of Patients with Aortic Stenosis | FDA Voice: "And today, June 16, FDA approved the Sapien XT, a balloon-expandableTHV, manufactured by Edwards Lifesciences. The Sapien XT is a revised version of their earlier Sapien THV for use in patients with aortic valve stenosis who are either inoperable or at high-risk for open-heart surgery.
The Sapien XT THV uses a smaller profile delivery system than the previously approved Sapien THV. The smaller system helps patients with small or severely diseased vessels. The Sapien XT is also available with an additional, larger-size 29-mm valve, which helps patients with larger-size native aortic valves."

Aortic Valve | STS
Aortic Valve | STS: "The most common cause of aortic valve disease requiring surgery is called "senile aortic calcification," meaning that the valve has worn out with age. When a valve becomes worn, the body deposits calcium on it for reasons that are unknown. The calcium restricts or limits the motion of the valve leaflets. This may prevent the valve from opening (causing stenosis) or closing (causing leakage or regurgitation). Less common causes of aortic valve disease include diseases of the aorta, the main blood vessel coming out of the heart and carrying blood to the rest of the body, including ascending aortic aneurysms, aortic dissection, and Marfan's syndrome."

Parental Alienation and Children Exhibiting Visitation Refusal Behaviour, Part 2 - Our Family Wizard - child custody, parenting time
Parental Alienation and Children Exhibiting Visitation Refusal Behaviour, Part 2 - Our Family Wizard - child custody, parenting time: "Parental alienation can also be a causal factor in self-injuring behaviour in children, including eating disorders. Alienated children are at a high risk of drug and alcohol abuse, they may suffer from mood disorders, have low self esteem, they may be depressed, or anxious or trying to cope with persistent panic attacks and some alienated children have been misdiagnosed as asthmatic.
There are also alienating parents who put their children on medication they do not need. Parents that engage in this behaviour attempt to make it appear (for custody purposes) that the child becomes adversely affected prior to, or shortly after their visitation with the rejected parent. "

In my personal experience, this is the best process of bracing of the tank. No matter what size it is."

Fix a Bowed Tank by Adding a Braced Frame - YouTube
Fix a Bowed Tank by Adding a Braced Frame - YouTube:
Hi, I enjoyed watching your video and have been grappling with a similar issue. In my case the top trim has been removed. The company that makes this tank may not be around but it looks like Aqueon is similar: Their published dimensions are: 72.5" x 18.5" x 29.5" Mine I have as the same 72.5 (although I recall at the base where the trim was the longest dimension may have been 72 3/8 -While the width at the widest may have been 18 5/8 (accounts for thickness of trim). I t would seem that bow (on a tank as long as 72" or over 6ft should be normal and expected. Bottom line is a filled the tank up about 3" lower then the top. The 1/4 glass brace that "just fit within" got pulled" or slid about a full 1/2 at the very center! The part that stayed in place IMHO opinion did so because it was squarely in place. The other side because of my poor glass cutting skill slid inward exposing most of the what I believe is 1/2" of the glasses thickness. At the sides the measurement across the top is 18 2/8 as I move 6 inches from the side it goes up to 18 3/8 then at the very center (and about three inches in each direction it bows to about 18 5/8 (possibly up to 18 3/4) I know it was never as high a 19 inches. Is it natural and normal to allow for a maximum "bulge or bow" of lets say about 1/2 an inch. I would like to propose this plan: Center Brace cut to actual bowed size: 5" wide by 19 7/8 or whatever it actually is after about 12 hours of sitting there!

Gls Tk Cross Bracing F2: "t's been a little while. I've got a 135G Oceanic Reef Ready tank (72 x 18 x 24). To my dismay I woke up this morning and found that the large glass center brace had pulled free from the front of the tank and was hanging in the tank (I actually used to have their 150G that is the same dimensions but 4 taller that this happened to. I returned it immediately and got the 135 which I told was more stable).
I've searched your web sight and I think I've pieced together what I need to do, but I had a few more questions before I do this. Wanted to hear your thoughts or if you could let me know if there's a step by step guide for me doing this.
So here's my plan. I've got 6 oz of All Glass Silicone and have purchased two 24 wood clamps. I was take drain about ¼ or 1/3 of the water in the tank (or whatever it takes to get the bowing down). Then I was going to dry and razor clean the brace and the glass where it was attached. Then I'd generously apply the silicon to the brace and clamp it shut (using wood block so I don't damage the tank). Wipe off the excess silicone when I clamp it and wait 24 hours.
<24 hours is generally considered plenty of time for the silicone to cure, but in cases like this I would give it a good two if not three days to make sure it is 100% through.>"

Gls Tk Cross Bracing F2: "hard way, how important that middle brace is, with a 75 or more gallon tempered glass tank....
I have read throughout your site, a multitude of different fixes for this.
Due to the nature of the warped plastic, I do not see my being able to use Weld-on for this.
I would like to get a strong, metal u-bracket to place over this, to give the sides the support they need. I guess my questions are:
1.) should I be considering securing the existing middle brace pieces to the u-bracket in any fashion and/or
2.) what gauge/type of metal should I be looking at that will adequately support the tank, and not bend or give out over time?
Aesthetics are not as important of a factor, but obviously I can't keep my24" c-clamp on their permanently.
Picture attached."

And he was acting like he had been robbed and hurt, in order to seize them over there, lure them there for quick and easy seizure. And so the first question that the priest asked -- the first question that the Levite asked was, "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"
That's the question before you tonight. Not, "If I stop to help the sanitation workers, what will happen to my job. Not, "If I stop to help the sanitation workers what will happen to all of the hours that I usually spend in my office every day and every week as a pastor?" At other times we would speculate that there was a religious law that "One who was engaged in religious ceremonials was not to touch a human body twenty-four hours before the ceremony." HBJ owned the Sea World theme parks, including the one in San Diego, and had attempted earlier to purchase Marineland’s killer whales Orky and Corky without success.
On Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1986, HBJ purchased Marineland from Warwick for $23.4 million. After the acquisition, it announced that Marineland would continue to be run as normal, with the purchase having little impact on its day-to-day operations.
In reality, the company had made up its mind on a course of action early on, after determining that revamping the park would cost millions more than it was willing to spend."

"I have much more to say but first I need to catch up on the world news about yesterday's protest in Paris"- Stephen C. Sanders.
rime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and even Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas found it important enough to stand up to those who would kill the critics of Mohammed to come to the City of Light.
But not President Obama. Even though he has no activities at all on his presidential daily schedule, he is too busy to make time. (The NFL playoffs are on TV, though.)
The highest-ranking US official is the outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder, a lame duck.

SumpUseFAQ4
SumpUseFAQ4: " I have an existing 300 gal (96x30x24) reef. The tank is a room divider and visible from three sides. The overflow box is located in the center with a 2"drain leading to two 50 gallon sumps. I have read a number of recent FAQ's where there has been a recommendation to install new tanks without standing overflows, but sidewall drains instead. Can an overflow be safely removed in an existing glass tank?

NEW plumbing method for an ULTRA QUIET REEF TANK!!!! LONG !!!! - Reef Central Online Community: "So here is my final setup...........
On the main 1" return bulkhead in the overflow box I have a 1" piece of solid pvc that goes up to approx 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up inside the overflow( glued to the bulkhead). It must be sealed at the bottom or glued. (this is to keep the water IN the overflow box when power is out so you dont flood your sump.) I also have a 1" coupler on top of the pipe so I could insert that perferated pipe so that it is WAY above the water line and capped of so snails and large particles can not clog it.( I have about 10 or 12 inches of perferated tube so it will be next to impossible to stop the flow of water. Anything that will clog this would have clogged a "durso pipe" a long time ago!)
On the 3/4 bulkhead I have the solid tube (glued to the bulkhead) about 1 " below the teeth of the overflow box with a strainer cap on it (or I could have used some of the perferated pipe with a reducer bushing). The return for this goes directly to the sump just above the water line. It will only flow water in the event of a restriction in the main return line..."

Herbie drain in corner overflow - Reef Central Online Community: "Going into the sump the siphon side needs to be piped below the water level to be fully silent. The durso side should be piped well above the water level so you will hear if the emergency drain is in use allowing you to correct the issue.
Like rovy said try to be as straight as possible going into the sump
If you don't have durso already build it the next size up from your bulkhead so it would need to be 1 1/4" and then reduced atthe bulk head. the added volume increases flow... This doesn't make a difference on the siphon side since there is no air in the pipe 1" will suffice"

It made all kinds of splashing and gurggling sounds. The tank I had at my previous house, I ran a wet dry sump and the water went from main down to a layer of filter media and trickled through the bio balls. I don't remember it being nearly as loud as my last set up was. I would like some proven ideas that don't involve a custom designed tank. The durso was great for the top end of the last tank but what can silence the sump? "

What is activated charcoal and why is it used in filters? - HowStuffWorks
What is activated charcoal and why is it used in filters? - HowStuffWorks: "Activated charcoal is good at trapping other carbon-based impurities ("organic" chemicals), as well as things like chlorine. Many other chemicals are not attracted to carbon at all -- sodium, nitrates, etc. -- so they pass right through. This means that an activated charcoal filter will remove certain impurities while ignoring others. It also means that, once all of the bonding sites are filled, an activated charcoal filter stops working. At that point you must replace the filter."

If your concerned that the quality of the carbon from an aquarium shop might not be up-to-snuff, then go to a homebrew shop, or some other source that you are comfortable with. The granule size you'll want should be relatively close to 8 x 16 mesh size or smaller, but NOT so small that it falls out of the holes in your filter housing. I purchased the NSF approved carbon I used for my filters through an ebay merchant (here: http://stores.ebay.com/Carbon-Eze ). No, that's not me, & I don't know them. :) They describe their products well and have a good reputation & that's why I've included them here."

Granular activated carbon was first developed as a consequence of WWI for gas masks and has been used subsequently for water treatment, solvent recovery and air purification. The unique structure of activated carbon produces a very large surface area: 1 lb of granular activated carbon typically provides a surface area of 125 acres (1 Kg =1,000,000 sq. m.). Activated carbon can be produced from a variety of carbonaceous raw material, the primary ones being coal, coconut shells, wood and lignite."

Reefsavvy's Ghost Overflow: Patent Pending? - Reef Central Online Community: "The deep notch lowers the internal water level a little too much for my liking but I guess that can be fixed by raising the ghost box a tad. I like this overflow and I personally think Felix makes the best tanks on the planet imo. This method is just a cleaned up bean animal and way more sleek. The whole purpose for the bean is silence and redundancy and felix nailed it in a tight little package. The design still pulls water from the surface, it still implements a full siphon with an emergency and trickle drain and it looks a lot better than that long calfo design. If the calfo was needed for a tank to thrive then I would use it but it's not. Some of the best sps tanks use old fashioned top to bottom overflows with just a herbie and they maintain perfect water quality with no oily buildup at the top."

Reefsavvy's Ghost Overflow: Patent Pending? - Reef Central Online Community: " The Ghost employs a short box with an inordinately deep notch( an attempt at a weir?) that is essentially rendered obsolete by the addition of the slotted teeth covering that is a critical part of the Ghost overflow
*The deep notch lowers the water in the display significantly
*Display water travels through bulkheads instead of just flowing over the weir, eliminating your would-be surface skimming.
*The airline to trigger the open channel into a full siphon is missing?
*And lastly: the Ghost overflow is "patent pending"? I'm loosely familiar with the patent process, as I just filled a PPA of my own, and I'm just curious: How is your Non Provisional patent going to be granted/ hold water on a standpipe design that someone else ( Bean) came up with years ago, and a grossly superior design at that? What is being patented? The removable teeth box? Because if said patent attempt involves any of the standpipe design, If Im not mistaken, even if Bean didn't lock down the utility patent it's still considered prior art. "

Glass Reef - The Basics - Overflow
Glass Reef - The Basics - Overflow: "This one shows the 1/4" tubing for the air inlet on the open channel standpipe. It's not visible in the pic, but the tubing ends about a 1/4" above the normal water level in the overflow box. Should, for whatever reason, the water level in the box rise, the open end of the tube becomes covered with water, which shuts off any air access to the standpipe. This causes the normally open channel standpipe to become a full syphon standpipe. At this point the volume of water that the pipe can handle rises. More water flows down the pipe, which causes the water level in the overflow box to sink. As soon as the water level falls below the end of the 1/4" tubing, air can enter the pipe and it reverts back to its open channel status. In this way the overflow design automatically adjusts itself to changing conditions."

Glass Reef - The Basics - Overflow
Glass Reef - The Basics - Overflow: "a correctly designed and dimensioned overflow box will be very efficient at skimming the water surface in the DT. Surface skimming has a number of advantages. Gas exchange is enhanced, dissolved organics tend to rise to the water's surface and skimming moves them to the sump where they can be filtered out, the scum that collects on the surface is removed and the resultant clean surface allows more light to pass to the corals in the tank."

Vegetable Filters for aquarium filtration
Vegetable Filters for aquarium filtration: "Designing and tuning your own system will depend upon tank sizes and the pump chosen. In any case, in the event of a power outage or pump failure, the maximum water level in the lower tank must be set low enough to absorb the difference between the upper tank level with the pump on and the level with the pump off. With the overflow I have in place, this difference is just about 3/8" in the upper tank, about 1/2" in the lower. The difference is due in part to the positive meniscus in the upper tank. This level is marked on the glass of the lower tank by a tape line. I also mark the normal (lower) operating level with the pump running. When topping up the system during pump operation, this latter (lower) level is the guide. Filling the lower tank above this level could result in overflow during any power failure. This too is critical to the operation of the system."

Glass Reef - The Basics - Overflow: "The real deal though, when it comes to silent overflows, assuming your overflow box is large enough to handle it, is what I call the BeanAnimal/Herbie Overflow. Three or four years ago Herbie (his UserId on Reef Central) started a thread where he described an overflow utilizing two drain pipes. A year or two later, BeanAnimal (yes, his UserId on Reef Central) made some improvements to the design.
There is a prerequisite to using this design - let's call it the SASO (for silent and safe overflow). The overflow box must be large enough to hold three drain pipes, each of which must be dimensioned correctly for the needs of the system."

Lesson 3: Sedimentation and Flotation
Lesson 3: Sedimentation and Flotation: "Sedimentation can also occur as part of the pretreatment process, where it is known as presedimentation . Presedimentation can also be called plain sedimentation because the process depends merely on gravity and includes no coagulation and flocculation. Without coagulation/flocculation, plain sedimentation can remove only coarse suspended matter (such as grit) which will settle rapidly out of the water without the addition of chemicals. This type of sedimentation typically takes place in a reservoir, grit basin, debris dam, or sand trap at the beginning of the treatment process. "

Vegetable Filters for aquarium filtration
Vegetable Filters for aquarium filtration: "These W/D overflow units skim off the water surface layer and move the skimmed water outside the tank by siphons. The Vortex unit does not skim the surface. Outside the tank the units incorporates a standpipe (adjustable in the Vortex), commonly prefiltered by a sponge (not in the Vortex, but it may be added if kept clean by frequent rinsing - another valuable pollution export technique), to drop water to a lower level. Some overflows are crenellated, that is, they have squared notches around the skimmer rim. Others have smooth flat rims. I see little functional difference between the two overflow types. They maintain the water level at least at the level of the overflow rim or of the standpipe. When additional water is pumped into the tank from a sump, the water level rises to overflow (hence the name) into the surface-skimming unit. The steady state operation with water being pumped into the tank will have an upper tank level slightly above the rim of the overflow or standpipe (i.e., will show a positive meniscus)."

Vegetable Filters for aquarium filtration
Vegetable Filters for aquarium filtration: "Such tanks can still have the benefits of being planted, even without having plants in the tank at all. Have you ever heard of the concept of a refugium? In short, this is merely providing a refuge where the plants (or whatever) can live, separate from the display specimen and thus are protected by this separation, but with water exchange between the two areas. There can be several benefits here - not only having the positive effects of healthy plants on the water, but also simply by increasing the water volume. Remember that the solution to pollution is dilution. A number of public aquaria use this effect for some displays, adding a second linked tank to the public display tank to conceal equipment and to increase the operating water volume."

During their lighted period they adsorb carbon dioxide (CO2), produce oxygen (O2) and submerse plants release that into the water, so are also a form of aeration."

I was told by my friend that owns a local fish store (he stopped by to check it out), that the tank is a custom Lee Mar tank. At first I thought it was rimless (sorry Carcinoma, misinformation) but it is a eurobrace. The tank measures 69"L x 22"W x 30"H. With a huge overflow on one of the sides. The tank was previously used as a reef tank and the individual had it viewable from both sides."

About - BeanAnimal's Bar and Grill: "Many people have stopped using science and logic to form well thought out arguments. Instead, they offer unsubstantiated opinion (many times agressively) as an alternative to fact. That would be fine, but they have no desire or intention to prove that opinion with fact and instead take great offense to having that opinion disproved by fact. When I grew up, having opinion discredited by fact was called learning!
The act of shouting down facts with unsubstantiated opinion is regarded as a right by many people. We hear things like "lets agree to disagree" or "stop bashing his opinion" or "everybody is entitled to an opinion". What has been lost is the simple fact that in many of these arguments, there is most certainly a right and wrong. It follows that not all opinions are good opinions and not all opinions are valid opinions, they are, well, just opinions. "

I"m going to make an external cost to cost overflow for my 72x24x30.
I can think of 3 ways to do this.
1.) Cut a 1/2 inch out of the back (72") pannel. Stick the overflow to the back.
2.) Drill 1.5" holes along the top of the back pannel. Stick the overflow to the back.
3.) Add 1/2 inch to the 3 other sides of the tank. (making it a 30.5 inch tall) Stick the overflow to the back.
The end results would be the same, but what method should I use?"

How to notch back glass for ext. overflow? - Reef Central Online Community
How to notch back glass for ext. overflow? - Reef Central Online Community: "Should I even bother with a fence or teeth? I hear the a flat skimming surface for overflows is best anyway. I could always leave the trim over the top of the overflow to make it more of a slot than an open overflow. Maybe that'd work better. It'd only be maybe 1/2" tall. Obviously fish could get in sideways, but they'll find a way if they want to anyway. What say you, people of RC? "

cutting glass notch - Do It Yourself - Nano-Reef.com Forums: "You can use the diamond cut off wheel with a dremel to do this. The diamond wheel eats through the glass pretty quick, just remember to keep a steady hand and let the bit do the work, stop and let the bit cool off often.
Hard to see but I did this on a 5 gallon nano, then added a glass external overflow box."

The Answer to this is:
A fish tank which measures 72 inches long x 18 inches wide x 27 inches high holds how many gallons of water?
72 x 18 x 27 = 34,992 cubic inches-
Then convert to a different unit of volume- US Gallons- ask Google:
How many gallons is 34,992 cubic inches?
Answer = 151.481 Or- it's a 150 Gallon Aquarium:
Now someone obviously wanted to either have a Reef Tank or at least use a sump pump or some true over-flow method of filtration!
Yet when they looked at the label on the tank's bottom they read: "Tempered Glass" do not drill!
So they removed the trim and cut a notch 22 1/2 inches wide going down 2 inches from the top edge of the aquarium.
So:
Consider if the entire upper two inches of water were drained from the tank because of this 22.5 inch by two inch notch - how much water would drain from the tank:
Given: 72 x 18 x 27 = 151 US Gallons
How many US Gallons is 72 x 18 x 2 (the entire upper two inches of water)...
2,592 cubic inches ... Ask google or do the math!
11.222 US Gallons:
So an ideal "Overflow Box should be able to hold at say about 12 gallons (better a little extra than not enough)...
A 15 Gall0n Tank has the following dimensions:
24.3" x 12.5" x 12.8"
So, lets take a 15 Gallon Tank, remove one of the wide sides and slap it on to the tank where the "Notch" is cut!
