3 Pieces of Equipment You Should NEVER Use: "#1: Hang on the Back (HOB) Overflow Boxes
HOB overflow boxes came about so people with non reef-ready tanks (tanks that are not drilled) could use a sump. HOB overflows work by creating a syphon to draw water over the top of your tank and then down into your sump. When the syphon breaks, then your return pump in your sump pumps all the water in your sump into your tank, causing an overflow."

For larger tanks, I have seen people fabricate a bracket that fits across the top of the tank that is "U" shaped (although the 2 parallel sides are only an inch or two long). Others have used epoxy to "glue" an acrylic rod to the glass on the inside of the tank to provide the support."

Also now a sump for sale it holds about 15 gallons and it is 3 chambers glued together with the glue that bonds the plexy like melting it. I used this for 6 months worked great just my space it was cumbersome "

I apparently inherited sump-one's unfinished project: - Capital Cichlid Association Forums: "It sounds like what needs to be done is for a three sided box to be glued over the "notch," with dimensions about 2-3" larger than the notch in all directions.
At the bottom of the box, you would put in some bulkheads, which would run into a sump filter, as well as allowing your returns to pass through. This is done with some custom tanks because the overflow style is rather quiet. In theory, you could also extend the height, put bio-balls and media in it, and skip the sump, but ... I'd worry about the weight. "

There you have it, a 150 Gallon Tank (FREE!) but the trim was removed and this 2 inch deep cut on one of the edges is about 22 inches long!
