We Are What We Are Saying and Doing Right Now

Very soon, Being Developed.Org will be in full launch status,. Development (according to some new found wisdom) always was, and always has been an ongoing process. Therefore if one actually were to visit a website that was; Being Developed, one would certainly expect to see something which was not quite finished.

In truth nothing that we are currently working on is ever finished. With that a number of things come to mind:

1) Writing a book.
2) Planting a tree.
3) Building a house.
4) Having a child.
5) Getting married.
6) Completing a Master's Degree.
7) Launching a business.
8) Changing the world.

Another thought which has just popped into my mind is this:

The beauty of descriptive language:

I had been working in a very large social service organization, and had come up with a unique "Ad-on" component to the training program that the organization ran, where I was expected to place the graduates into jobs:

The brilliant concept was not immediately accepted according to my specifications which naturally included a raise in salary (along with a better job title) for myself.
Taking action, I barged into a meeting (where I was not invited) and when I had gained the right to address the assembly I stated:

"There is an proposed innovation at the Trade School, designed to more effectively motivate, and more efficiently place graduates in jobs, and it is in the latent phase." -Stephen C. Sanders "World Of Work" proposal Brooklyn, 1993. [As I said the word latent I pointed upwards]
Then one of the members from the assembled audience, who must have been paying attention to my introduction at the meeting,
that just popped into, said (in response to my statement-

"And you're the job developer..."- unknown (it was a both a statement and a question) and the fact that the person looked at me, along with using the word "the" instead of "a" indicated that somehow this person, a woman most likely a counselor or social; worker of some sort, clearly understood so much more than even her short phrase of well selected words revealed. The women was both looking at me, and perhaps even pointing to me when she said "you're".
"Yes!"
 Meaningful Connection between the words:

Latent is an adjective that has a few specific applications, however it's general meaning is:

"Latent is an adjective that you use to describe something that is capable of becoming active or at hand, though it is not currently so."
From Vocabulary.com

However, a much more specific application of the word latent is in photography. The latent image is used to describe the image that is captured on film before it is processed, or. developed.

Therefore if I was forced to find redundancy in the name of this website it would have to be, the word being. Alternatively, one could make a strong case for the word develop.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day: "Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime.
Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30"

Why We Celebrate Memorial Day - Kids News Article: "Hence it is often easy to forget the real significance of this holiday - A day to honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives whilst serving in our armed forces.

Started by General John Logan, the National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic as a way to unite the country following the Civil War, Memorial Day was first observed on May 30th, 1868, by simply placing flowers on the graves of both Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington's National Cemetery."

Memorial Day

Memorial Day: "Memorial Day was borne out of the Civil War and a desire to honor our dead. It was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed."

Fundraising from Friends and Family | Startup America Partnership: "While the bulk of our Angel funding came from a typical resource, our engaged Advisory Board members, and some of their personal contacts, investment can come from just about anyone. My 27 year-old nephew, who started an education software company, told his former high-school English teacher about his product.  Soon, the former teacher became an Angel investor.  Bottom line:  Talk up your idea to anyone who will listen to you.  You will be surprised.  "

7. Listen.  When you make a pitch, listen to the feedback.  The investor audience provides you with a fresh set of eyes and ears, and they may even make a suggestion to take your company to the next level.

8. They believe in you.  Unlike investors who don’t know you, your small network of family and friends know you first-hand and believe in you.  That’s half the battle in raising capital.  "

Sochaczew, Poland (Pages 601- 627): "For years after the death of the Kotzker, Rabbi Avraham still resided in the home of his father-in-law and gave himself over completely to Torah. He no longer had anyone to support him, and he saw poverty himself. Finally, due to the great hunger, he was forced to leave the sanctuary of Torah and accept a rabbinical position in Parczow. However, even as he sat on the rabbinic seat, the Kotzker spark overtook him, which prevented him from becoming involved with people. In order to counteract this, Rabbi Avraham attempted to become involved in communal matters, and to conduct learning sessions in the city, without showing favoritism to the trustees and parnassim."

Isaac's Army: A Story of Courage and Survival in Nazi-Occupied Poland

Isaac's Army: A Story of Courage and Survival in Nazi-Occupied Poland: "Much of this history is known in broad strokes, but Brzezinski provides rich detail, context, and framework that creates a fuller picture. People’s stories were rendered from the first day of the war to the last, and in some cases beyond. That gives the reader insight into who these people were, their motivations and how they evolved into heroic figures. Brzezinski interviewed most of the main characters of the book who were still living in Poland, Israel, and Canada. He also explored the different forms of resistance: collective and individual, armed and spiritual, conscious and subconscious. From the moment the extermination policy was launched, any steps taken by Jews to hamper the Nazis’ efforts to eradicate them was resistance—bribing officials, paying people to hide them, fleeing to the forests, stealing food—were acts of defiance that required perseverance, courage, and planning."

IRS Releases Nonfiler Revocation List

IRS Releases Nonfiler Revocation List: "275,000 Nonprofits Are No Longer Tax Exempt!

Estimates are that as many as 2/3rds of this list may be functionally dormant.  Even if that’s true, that leaves nearly 100,000 active charities and other nonprofits in a very critical situation.

Let’s take a look at exactly what the ramifications are for an organization on the list:

501(c) status is revoked retroactively with an effective date of May 15, 2010 (the due date of the 2009 Form 990)."

IRS Revises Procedure for Reinstating Tax-Exempt Status | Foundation Group

IRS Revises Procedure for Reinstating Tax-Exempt Status | Foundation Group: "Form 990 requirement was either Form 990-N or Form 990-EZ, can apply for retroactive reinstatement by filing a new Form 1023, along with Form 990-EZs for those years in which it was required, but missed.  If any or all of the missed years required Form 990-N, they do not have to be filed in arrears.  Reasonable cause will now be assumed and not required to be articulated in writing.  In addition, late filing penalties for the prior year Form 990-EZs will be abated.  This is no small change to the process and one that should benefit thousands of small organizations dealing with lost exemptions.

It should be noted that this Revenue Procedure does not change the requirements for larger nonprofits seeking reinstatement of tax-exemption.  They will still be required to provide definitive reasonable cause and will not have late filing penalties waived."

You've Automatically Lost 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Status - Now What? - Nonprofit + Social Enterprise Lawyer | Austin Texas | Cullinane Law Group: "Pension Protection Act, required all organizations to file returns, but because it was embedded in 393 pages of a law that otherwise dealt with pension issues, many nonprofit groups did not know that.

Nonprofits that didn’t comply risked losing their 501(c)(3) status, which allows donors to deduct their donations on their income tax returns. The status also plays a role in some grants and state tax breaks.

It is expected that many of the entities whose tax-exempt status were revoked no longer actually exist. They may have merged with another entity and failed to legally dissolve and/or notify the IRS of their discontinuation. But many are small to mid-size organizations who failed to comply with IRS requirements."

Why did this happen?

Until several years ago, charities with revenues of less than $25,000 were not required to file federal tax returns. Then in 2006, Congress passed a law ordering all nonprofits with federal tax-exempt status to submit returns for 2007, 2008 and 2009. The required forms consisted of eight questions requesting basic information such as the group’s name, website and employer identification number."

The appropriate user fee must be paid with the application; current user fees are $400 or $850, depending on annual gross receipts. This amount changes; check with the IRS.

Nonprofits with average annual gross receipts over $10,000 a year for a four-year period will pay $850 if they want to be reinstated. If the organization’s gross receipts do not exceed $10,000 for that same time period, then they are only required to pay a $400 user fee."

If your nonprofit organization has had its tax-exempt status automatically revoked, and wants to be reinstated, you must file a new exemption application and pay the appropriate fees. Your organization must use the same forms as all other applicants. 501(c)(3) entities will file IRS Form 1023. Many other exempt organizations will file IRS Form 1024.

To facilitate processing, write “automatically revoked” at the top of the application form and on the envelope. This will ensure that your application goes to a specialist trained to handle these applications."

IRS Lightens Up On Retroactive Reinstatement | The NonProfit TimesThe NonProfit Times

IRS Lightens Up On Retroactive Reinstatement | The NonProfit TimesThe NonProfit Times: "he prior requirement for showing reasonable cause for all three years was onerous because what the IRS might let slide in the first year might not be acceptable in the second and third. “(Organizations) would say, ‘we’re short-staffed, we were new,’ all kinds of things that would work the first time around,” he said. “If you fail to file one year, the IRS would probably say it’s alright, but if you fail to file two or three in a row, they’ll say you need to get your act together.”

Many organizations whose status is automatically revoked are probably defunct, said Shuster. “A lot of organizations, they get an idea they want to start a nonprofit, they pursue it for a while, then they give it up and don’t bother filing returns or let their status lapse,” he said."

Vladka Meed, Who Infiltrated Warsaw Ghetto, Dies at 90 - NYTimes.com: "Women were often preferred as couriers, she said in a 1983 interview. “If a man in the underground went on a mission, he could be recognized as a Jew by his circumcision,” she said. “A woman’s body might be searched, but it could not give that information.”

She was soon buying bullets, pistols, even dynamite, and carrying them, as well as money and essential information, to the Jewish side of the wall. Sometimes she became part of a Polish ghetto work detail, sometimes she bribed her way across and sometimes she clambered over the wall. With death all but certain, she once recalled, “there was very little left to fear.”"

Jewish Resistance & Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

Jewish Resistance & Warsaw Ghetto Uprising: "Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
At its peak, the Warsaw Ghetto held over 400,000 people in an area slightly larger than one square mile. By January 1943, it had dwindled to 37,000 people. The rest had died of starvation and disease, or were taken away to slave labor and death camps.
Word got out that the Nazi tormentors were going to eliminate the ghetto entirely. In the most famous revolt, a group of ill-equipped, starved, disease-weakened ghetto Jews decided to fight back against the German war machine"

The Holocaust and Survivor Stories: "Meier, Basia’s fiancé, built two underground tunnels so that if they needed to escape they could.  One day, the Nazis came in, and people with bunkers hid in them.  In a bunker leading to the sewer, Basia’s mother and fiancé were found.  They were taken to Auschwitz where her mother was killed.  But her fiancé escaped and came back to the second bunker where Basia was hiding.

The ghettos were being cleared out, and it wasn’t safe for them anymore.  They decided to hide in the woods until things settled down.  While hiding, Basia became very sick from eating unripened vegetables all the time.  Meier would sneak out at night and get food for them even though it was extremely dangerous.  Basia and Meier hid in the woods for the next five months. "

Warsaw Ghetto Fights and Polish Home Army Q's and A's

Warsaw Ghetto Fights and Polish Home Army Q's and A's: "Q.: Did Warsaw Ghetto Fights have any chance of success?

A.: Not in a military sense. It was a heroic act of defiance but in essence a suicidal one. This was a situation frequently encountered in Nazi occupied Poland: when facing certain death many members of the resistance opted for dying in combat. In the words of one of the leaders of the uprising, Marek Edelman: "The uprising was doomed to fail. It was more a symbolic gesture to make the world recognise us." (1)"

Though there were no surviving eyewitnesses, it is assumed that he died on 8 May 1943, along with his girlfriend and many of his staff, at the surrounded ŻOB command post at 18 Miła Street."

Holocaust Survivors: Jeannine Burk's Story: "Rumors began to circulate in Brussels that things were going to get very uncomfortable for the Jews. There must have been a network of underground resources where you could inquire about hiding Jews. My father had found a place for my brother to go. He had a place for my sister to go. He found this place for me to go.

My father took me on a streetcar. This memory is etched in my mind because it is the last time I ever saw my father. We rode to the end of the line. I remember getting off with him. I remember walking what appeared to me to be a long distance. He knocked on a door and a woman answered. I went inside. That was the last time I ever saw my father."
